Broulee’s New Year’s Eve sandcastle competition fires up again this year, in front of the North Broulee toilet block. “It’s always a hoot,” said newly anointed sandcastle supremo John Waser of the Broulee Mossy Point Community Association. “Where else can you see opera houses, mermaids, big feet and beach bums mingling on the beach and we’ve got a heap of prizes generously donated by local businesses for our three categories of “sculpture, sandcastle and junior”. There is a maximum of 5 per team except for family or junior teams which can have additional members under 5 years of age. Only normal beach buckets and spades, ice cream containers and water spray bottles can be used. The Broulee Sand Modelling Competition is held at North Broulee Beach on New Year's Eve every year. It is a great afternoon out for people of all ages, which attracts around 90 entries with over 200 competitors and an estimated 1800 spectators.

Prizes for the event are donated by local businesses, and known artists act as judges for the competition.

All funds go towards towards projects run by the Broulee Mossy Point Association.
