Cobargo Doco: In Pursuit of Silence

Sunday, December 16th will be the next monthly community documentary screening in the Old Cobargo Butter Factory at 3.30pm

In Pursuit of Silence

Feature-length documentary by Patrick Shen In Pursuit of Silence is a meditative exploration of our relationship with silence, sound and the impact of noise on our lives. Beginning with an ode to John Cage’s ground-breaking composition 4'33", In Pursuit of Silence takes us on an immersive cinematic journey around the globe– from a traditional tea ceremony in Kyoto, to the streets of the loudest city on the planet, Mumbai during the wild festival season – and inspires us to experience silence and celebrate the power of quiet places.

Shen’s film is able to convey beautifully – both through explanation and exemplification – that silence is not ‘without sound’ but is a removal of the dissonance, and its universal benefit is to allow for experience and awareness. This elegant study on why we should dial down the racket of our daily lives will make you consider turning off and tuning out. Interview with Patrick Shen below:
