Southcoast Health and Sustainability Alliance (SHASA) ably assisted by the Reverend Linda Chapman, Rector Anglican Parish of Moruya & Open Sanctuary Tilba Tilba undertook the “Blessing of the Solar Panels” on Tuesday 4 December 2018 providing a sumptious lunch after the ceremony.
Micro Energy Systems Australia (Bodalla based Electrical / Solar Contractor) in partnership with SHASA recently donated a 3.48kW Photovoltaic Solar System to the RED DOOR Street Cafe.
As all the equipment, balance of systems and labour were donated by Micro Energy Systems there was a small surplus of available funds donated by the SHASA community group as a result of a recent raffle to support the project. These funds will be invested in further energy saving infrastructure including energy efficient heating for the Church site.
The Red Door operates from the Moruya Anglican Church hall and provides free meals to the community in need, every Tuesday 12 noon to 1.30pm. The addition of a 3.48kW solar system to the Church administration building will help to significantly reduce the electricity bills incurred with running fridges, freezers, stoves and ovens.
The installation of 12 x 290-watt panels will provide at least an additional 4000kW of electricity to the site with most of the production being utilised by onsite loads.
