The Beagle Editor, Here is an open letter to the Member for Bega and to the NSW Forestry Corp. Firstly to the community of Corunna. I have driven by the forestry location since all of this began. I commute twice daily and have followed what has been happening on social media and in the newspaper. I tooted each time i went past the Lone Drummer and I respected the way the community kept its focus on Forestry Corp NSW and didn't set out to confront the contractors as they do in Victoria. I saw the footage of the protest in Bega outside the Member for Bega's office. I was in Bega to witness the "funeral' procession for the death of the forest. I saw the footage of the Lone Drummer outside the Member's office and now i have seen more and more cars along the highway with people I recognise as families quietly protesting. Andrew Constance. These people of your electorate presented you with a petition requesting that there be no logging. That was ignored. They then asked if there could be limits to the logging with extensions to the width of environmental and visual corridors. That has been ignored. They then informed you of a sea eagle nest and asked if the loggers could keep well clear of this. That too was ignored. And ignored for what reason? Is the NSW Government so penny inching that it has to suck every cent out of a forest. You splash money around like it is coming from an endless bucket announcing millions after millions for hospitals, bridges, roads and marine reefs but when it comes down to not logging a stand of trees that are all but worthless in dollar terms you stick to your guns as a member of a government that has now been called out as a deforestor of a world wide scale that is tantamount to environmental criminality. The Corunna Forest is just one of many in NSW where the community are saying no more. The protestors are not, as they seem to be accused, dole bludging greenies. Mr Constance. They are voters. And so are the hundreds who drive by that forest everyday and know that you have not lifted a single finger to intervene and bring some sense to why this forest timber is so $#@%ing importnat to the income of Forestry Corporation that they are wiling to press the rules and you are so willing to be held personally accountable for having turned your back on your own community. You have achieved a lot of good for this region but you have failed terribly on this and you will be held to account. Disgust does not even begin to describe my feelings for how you have failed your community by blatantly ignoring them. As for Forestry Corp - there are no words to describe how low you are held in regard by this community. For the sake of pennies you have destroyed not only a forest but any respect a community might have for your operation that is focused purely on greed. Your actions in this are equally disgusting when all that was required was to leave a small copse of trees standing. Are you that desperate for money? Really ??? Name and address supplied
