Changes to the way Local Government in operates in New South Wales have been occurring for years . The changes, all money related, are a result of political decisions beginning at State Government level. The political decisions are being made by a handful of individuals elected to represent us all. The elected voters representatives are expected to understand a few simple things, the most important being respect for all people. This is something that’s clearly evident not occuring at Eurobodalla Council meetings.
As local NSW Councils grow at bureaucratic or public servants employee numbers a greater demand is placed on revenue raising to support significant increases for wages and salary growth. The State Government recently drove a forced NSW Council Amalgamation process that was a complete failure with no apparent economic benefits to residents and tax payers of the areas forced to amalgamate.
Now we are all being fed with another state government supported and directed ideal that NSW Local Councils join with other Council’s to become Joint Regional Organisations with significant membership fees provided by the Local Council areas residents and ratepayers fund.
Although Eurobodalla residents and ratepayers money collectively paying for its Council to belong to a Regional Joint Organisation no one has, it seems, taken the time to explain to the residents of the Eurobodalla Shire what new benefits the areas residents will receive by being forced, we could say, to belong to any new organisation or organisations.
Our elected representatives not just Locally but at State and Federal Government Levels need to start explaining how community benefits will be provided by belonging to new advocacy groups if that’s what they are ?!!
