Council advises Deep Creek dam level is ‘manageable’ with 89%

The Beagle Editor,

Water, water everywhere….somewhere….anywhere?

A recent letter in another newspaper concluded that fishing does have a lot to do with forestry ….. and vice versa, you’d have to say.

Indeed our lives and health depend on water - without water, we simply will not survive.

Let's be sure that among its many other important matters, our council is doing its utmost to ensure the long-term security of our shire's water supply and, importantly, that we residents are kept aware of what's happening.

At one stage towards the end of the previous drought, it was suggested that the local media should report on the amount of water in Deep Creek dam. We were then at an early stage of rationing water usage and while it might not be so bad here now, yet, it is a measure that could be of help to preserve our vital water supplies.

As we are no doubt approaching similar weather and climate conditions, should we be asking for this to be established on a continuing basis along with details of flows in feeder waterways, progress with the new southern dam and other related matters simply to keep these matters on the top of our priority lists?

Editors Note: In September 2016, Eurobodalla Shire Council engaged SMEC Australia to carry out the concept design, Environmental Impact Statement and detailed design for a second water supply storage facility for Eurobodalla Shire. It is the opinion of Eurobodalla Council that this storage facility will ensure ongoing water supply security for the shire and maintain environmental flows in the Tuross River. The proposed facility is unlike a traditional dam in that it is off-stream, with water pumped to it from the Tuross River. Pumping can be maximised in times of high flow, for example following heavy rainfall, with reduced pumping in lower flows to help sustain the natural river system. The preferred location and concept design for the new southern water supply storage facility near Bodalla are now complete and available for the community to view. You can find more information is available on Council’s website at http://www.esc.nsw.gov.au/inside-council/project-and-exhibitions/major-projects-and-works/southern-water-supply-storage

NOTE: Comments were TRIALED - in the end it failed as humans will be humans and it turned into a pile of merde; only contributed to by just a handful who did little to add to the conversation of the issue at hand. Anyone who would like to contribute an opinion are encouraged to send in a Letter to the Editor where it might be considered for publication
