“Got Your Bags?” Asks Moruya Business Chamber

The Moruya Business Chamber’s campaign to reduce the use of plastic bags has been launched with the placing of banners and posters around the town on Saturday and an education campaign to start this week.

“Got Your Bags?” is the simple question put to shoppers to remind people to bring reusable bags with them when shopping in Moruya.

The banners and posters are backed by a mailout to all households in the 2537 postcode telling residents about the campaign as well as street stalls where volunteers will talk with shoppers about ways to remember to bring reusable bags with them.

Business Chamber President, Jude Manahan says the aim of the campaign is for Moruya to grow to be a town completely free of single use plastic bags.

“We have tremendous support from businesses and the wider community for the campaign,” she said.

“People are increasingly aware of the damage single use plastic bags can do in the environment.”

The education campaign has been supported by Southern Phone and the Eurobodalla Shire Council and implemented by volunteers coordinated by the Moruya Business Chamber.
