Rescue helicopters have retrieved four people from a remote beach south of Bermagui between Bunga head and Wapengo Lake south of Bermagui. after their trawler hit rocks and sank.
A trawler has hit the rocks and is taking on water. The crew has abandoned ship having alerted authorities with a Mayday call that was relayed to Marine Rescue NSW
The search and rescue vessel Bermagui 30 was activated.
Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopters Lifesaver 23 has confirmed the distress beacon on board the vessel is still active however the boat is too unstable to board it and turn beacon off. Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter report that 4 persons have been rescued off the beach at Bengunnu Point having issued their May Day via an activated EPIRB making it to beach in liferaft. #Lifesaver23 & @tollambulance have transported 2 persons each to Bermagui to meet @NSWAmbulance with all four reportedly suffering mild hypothermia
