Show your support for the Rural Lands Strategy

The Beagle Editor, A reminder to all those who will benefit from the implementation of the Rural Lands Strategy, you have until the 22nd June to let both Council and the State government know that you agree with this strategy and that after 5 years of consultation and planning no further delay is warranted. Council have presented well researched and evidence based proposals to government. Government agencies all participated in the Strategy and to date have made little or no changes to the directions of the strategy. When the plan comes off exhibition they should gazette these changes into the Rural LEP as soon as possible. There have been spurious claims made by Coastwatchers and others that the Strategy is floored and Biodiversity will be threatened. The facts are the proposed LEP simply mirrors and includes all State and Federal environmental legislation. In reality all relevant protections are in place. Generally with public exhibitions the negative side of the argument submit their minority view in an attempt to disadvantage the majority. Here the Coastwatchers and others are attempting to railroad this process because it fails to meet their misguided ideals and are attempting to impose restrictions on private lands far above what current government legislation requires. I am urging all landholders to write a simple short submission to Council urging both Council and government to adopt the proposed LEP in its current form as soon as possible. June the 22nd is the closing date. Yours sincerely Keith Dance
