About 3.30pm (Friday 1 June 2018), a 71-year-old man and a 69-year-old woman were stabbed by a man at their home on East Street at Bega.

The woman died at the South East Regional Hospital and the man remains in a critical condition in Canberra Hospital.

A short time later, officers from the South Coast Police District engaged in pursuits of a car belonging to the couple being driven by a 20-year-old man.

About 4.40pm, a 54-year-old man was allegedly struck in the head with a hammer by the same 20-year-old during the carjacking of his vehicle on the Sapphire Coast Drive in Bournda.

The man was airlifted to St George Hospital where he died early this afternoon (Sunday 3 June 2018).

Following the carjacking, the 20-year-old man was arrested after crashing the car and running into bushland.

He was subsequently charged with murder and two counts of wound with intent to murder.

The local man appeared in court today and was remanded in custody to appear at Batemans Bay Local Court on 4 June 2018.

Investigations into the incident continue, with detectives from the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad assisting local police.
