Narooma Oyster Festival shines as Huntfest looms

Dear Beagle Editor, Congratulations to everyone who organised, presented, catered and attended the Narooma Oyster Festival on the weekend. It really was terrific and my whole family had a great time including the in-laws from Canberra down for the event. It was a terrific day and a credit to the town who all got behind it and supported it. We met a lot of people from all over who came to town for the weekend. It was a shame that Friday night didn’t work out and our kids were a bit disappointed in missing the bikes jumping but then that is just how it goes when you have a weekend planned months ahead. At least it didn't rain. It didn’t go unnoticed that the Eurobodalla Council were displayed as major sponsors. It is a different tune with the upcoming Huntfest though and they don’t even have it as an event on their What’s On page on their website. Are they too embarrassed? Narooma proved last weekend that it was family friendly, inclusive, culturally aware and pretty funky and on point with food. In a few weeks they will be rolling out venison sausages, selling guns and ignoring the aboriginal and community wishes to not have their festival in the #unspoilt Land of Many Waters Nature Coast. The last Council (Voted for by Pollock, Brown and Innes) gave an extension of 5 years to the Huntfest which denies the current councillors from overturning the decision. The next election will see this ON THE TABLE as an election issue and if the rumour is correct that Burnside is running again then we will remind the community that he voted for HuntFest as well. What we need is more festivals like the Oyster Festival and the Great Southern Blues Festival (rumours are that our ex-mayor Mumme will run again as well. We have a fantastic community with our Mens Shed and MACS and Rotary, CWA, Quota. Let's get rid of the stigma of the guns and hunting at the next election and say NO to Huntfest.
