TUROSS HEAD PROGRESS ASSOCIATION INC.

AGENDA FOR 3rd MAY 2018 MEETING Held at Kyla Hall, Tuross Head 2pm


GUEST SPEAKER:

GENERAL BUSINESS

1. RMS Wollongong - Update on Highway “T” Intersection safety upgrade.

To date the RMS has so far implemented interim safety upgrade measures by installing a “Prepare to STOP” and STOP sign at the end of Hector McWilliam Drive on 2 Mar /3 Mar 17. On 11 Apr 18 the Secretary THPA was advised by RMS that the Federal Government (Minister for Infrastructure & Deputy Prime Minister– Michael McCormack, MP) has allocated $1.4 million to RMS for the completion of the road safety upgrade of the Tuross Head “T” intersection.

The release of these funds was pursued by the Federal Member for Gilmore, Ann Sudmalis MP in her capacity as the Chair of the Regional Roads Black Spot Road Funding Program.

Ann Sudmalis is to conduct a community forum at the Kyla Hall commencing at 1 pm on 7 June 18 prior to the THPA meeting to held at 2 pm. All Turossians are to be invited to attend, to present any concerns or issues they may have.

2. Upgrading of “Cycle/walk” missing link (dirt section Anderson Ave to Buchan Bridge).

It is expected that Council (Warren Sharpe) will address this issue.

3. Design & manufacture of new History Plaques

This AGENDA item for three new history plaques for installation along the cycle/walk has been deferred at the previous 2018 THPA monthly meetings referring to the explanations provided by Gary Cooper for Agenda item 2 and creation of a new Heritage Committee. The plaques to be manufactured are as follows:

  1. George Bass landing 1897.

  2. Un-marked Graves Site – 5 known graves, 1866, 1867 & 1891.

  3. The History & official opening of the Cycle/walk & Boardwalk.

4.Concept – Tuross Head to pursue infrastructure to promote the town as a RV friendly destination.

It is expected that Council (Warren Sharpe) will outline the prospect of such promotion. It is noted that COBARGO is signposted as a RV Friendly town.

5. Update on Fishing Facilities for the Shire & New Boat Ramp.

It is expected that Council (Warren Sharpe) will provide the meeting with an update on the Councils plans to deliver improved fishing facilities in Tuross Head in particular, given our village’s economy relies heavily on fishing tourism.

NEW GENERAL BUSINESS

6. Council survey - Restrictions on Dog Off-leash areas across the Shire

PROLOGUE

On 9 Apr 18 the Secretary THPA provided a 5-page written submission to Council covering the points raised at the above meeting and agreed should be presented to Council on behalf of THPA.

7. Bushfire Emergency Preparedness plan- Tuross Head

The THPA has asked the RFS Tuross Head (Danielle Brice) to provide information on tailored BUSHFIRE PROTECTION Plans for dissemination.

8. Australian Hearing Institute.

Kath Brownly from Australian Hearing Institute (Commonwealth Government entity) to attend Kyla Hall at 12.00 pm ahead of the 2.00 pm THPA meeting in order to conduct free hearing screening tests for any aged pensioners, DVA pensioners or war widows who wish to take advantage of this community minded gesture.

Please pass this information on to likely candidates for hearing tests ahead of this meeting. They do not have to be members of the THPA.

The next THPA meeting will be convened on 7 Jun 18.

Federal Members for Gilmore, Ann Sudmalis MP will be in attendance.
