Sculpture Bermagui is OPEN and stunning

Sculpture Bermagui opened to a packed Community Centre reception on Friday night where the sponsors, donors, artists and members of the public all gathered for an evening previewing the Indoor sculptures, and to learn which of the over 110 sculptures on display had won the big awards. The prestigious Cox Family Acquisitive Prize went to the beautiful, evocative “Influence” by Jen Mallinson.

The Heasty and Balos acquisitive prize for “A Fully Resolved Sculpture” went to Vlase Nisoleski for ‘Foreshore”, a piece in Stainless steel and bronze and sitting on a custom plinth. It addresses the impact of human behaviour on changing water tables and consequences for indigenous fauna.

The third prize awarded on Friday night was the South East Arts Achievement Award, which went to local Bermagui artist, Joy Georgeson for “Timeline I and II” (below).

Visitors to Sculpture Bermagui will be able to see these wonderful works of art, along with the other 100 or more pieces on exhibition on the Dickinson Point headland and foreshore, and in the Bermagui Community Centre until Sunday 18 March. The People Choice and Children’s Choice Awards will be announced at the Closing Ceremony on Sunday 18 March, so there is still plenty of time to vote for your favourite artwork. During the coming week there will also be opportunities to meet the artists at the Twilight Tours, Starlight conversations and the Artists Symposium, with two of the winning artists, Jen Mallinson and Vlase Nikoleski taking part and discussing their work and their creative, conceptual and artistic responses to site and landscape, form and contemporary ideas.
