7th Hotondo Homes Broulee Bay to Breakers Ocean Swim

Swim Coordinator Gary Pettigrove believes the seventh swim on Sunday 11 March was another great occasion for the Broulee community.

‘’We had a perfect South Coast day. Beautiful Sun, no wind, a nice small wave, a large sand bar which made the swim shorter and the wade longer, great company and friends and a large gathering. We had 330 swimmers today which is a record for the swim.’’

Gary Pettigrove was particularly grateful to the sponsors and volunteers who made the event so successful. Sponsors included Hotondo Homes, Tomakin Sports and Social Club, Total Eco Adventures & Broulee Surf School, Broulee Supermarket and Cellars, Offshore Surf Shop, Beachcombers Broulee, IGA the Moorings Tomakin, The Lodge Broulee, fx Business Centre, Mogo Zoo, Bay Physiotherapy & Pilates, Woolworths Moruya, Kardinia Wines, Bridge Plaza/Village Centre, Vikings Group.

The conditions were ripe for breaking records with 12 records broken, something that will be hard to beat in the future.

Congratulations to Callum Elliott (18 min 41 sec) and Katie Drydan (18 min 55 sec) who swam the 1.4km to win the open divisions. Very fast swims indeed.

Gary thanked the organising committee of the Broulee Surf Club and the Broulee Mossy Point Community Association for making the event happen and gave a big thank you to all the water safety people who did a great job on and off the water.

Many travelled to swim – there were 112 from Canberra and others came from Melbourne, Tamworth, Sydney, Goulbourn and Wagga.

Gary Pettigrove applauded the 18 swimmers who achieved “bronze dolphin”status by completing five Broulee Bay to Breakers Ocean swims.

The swim raised over $10000 which will be split between the Broulee Surfers Surf Life Saving Club and the Broulee Mossy Point Community Association. .
