Making full Use of Printers and Cartridges.

At EuroSCUG’s last monthly meeting, senior computer users enjoyed a return visit from Guest Speaker Adriana Shepherd, from Cartridge World, Batemans Bay. Her talk, entitled “Helpful Hints on Getting the Best out of Printers and Cartridges”, recommended members do some research, and ask questions, when buying a printer. Often cheaper printers require dearer cartridges. Also, buyers should check that the cartridges are available at places other than the specific retailer, and how many printed pages can be expected from each cartridge.

Adriana also explained the different types of printers, inks, and papers. Cheaper papers may lose fibres, which can block printer nozzles. Some cartridges come with their own printheads, which must be kept clean, and. cartridges must not be allowed to dry out. In colour printers with multiple cartridges, the cartridges should be replaced one at a time to allow the printer to adjust. Most cartridges can be refilled at Cartridge World, a cost saver.

Adriana said she would welcome members calling at the shop for advice.

After morning tea, Adriana answered questions from several members, and members divided into small groups which covered Apple TV, Templates, editing photos with Photofiltre, and Windows 10. Other members joined a Beginners Group or sought advice from the Help Desk.

At the next meeting, at 10am on Wednesday 1st November at Moruya Golf Club, the Guest Speaker will be EuroSCUG Committee member Amanda Annabel. Amanda recently received the Toastmasters Area Director of the Year Award for 2016/2017 for the area covering from Parramatta to the Victorian border, and west to the S.A. border. During her talk, entitled “Presenting with Panache”, Amanda will share her 16 years experience with Toastmasters to demonstrate the strategies people can use to build self-confidence and leadership skills to become competent public speakers and leaders. After morning tea, small groups will cover topics including Windows 10, and Christmas cards and letters. A Beginners Group and Help Desk will also be available.

EuroSCUG meets at 10am on the first Wednesday of the month at Moruya Golf Club, and local area groups meet regularly in Batemans Bay, Moruya, Tuross Head and Narooma. Monthly tablet groups (iPad and Android) are also held.
