Dear Beagle Editor, What happened to innovation under this government? It was one of the buzz words of Malcom Turnbull. Yet here we are pursuing a 1950’s energy policy. Christiana Figueres, previous UN climate chief who presided over the Paris climate agreement, maintains we have just 3 years to curb the level of carbon emissions that will see run-away, out of control climate change. Here on the south coast as we face a higher than normal bush-fire risk following an extremely dry winter our government is preparing to subsidise the Adani coal mine and has intervened to keep an old coal fired power plant going past it’s use by date. So much for the free market. Truly it beggars belief. The Australian government is hastening to the past, relying on fossil fuels, as the rest of the world embraces renewable energy.
