Dear Beagle Editor, Watching the live streaming of the Council meeting today (until it cut off) was very interesting. The community presenters were varied and interesting and everything was going along OK until they talked about the Aquatic Strategy. So while I listened i searched and found it. Being a parochial Naroomaite I went to page 25 to read about my own pool and this is what the consultant had written. Narooma Swimming Centre has an indoor 50m pool, however the pool is ageing, has no ramp entry and has variable water depths. The Centre also includes a small low depth outdoor pool, ageing changing rooms, non-contemporary kiosk and reception arrangements. The Centre is situated adjacent to the local Camping and Caravan park, on the beach front. Narooma Swimming Centre does not reflect contemporary aquatic facility trends, has few components that contribute to more successful facilities and/ or cater for a diversified range of markets. Just so happens that he was in my ear telling the councillors what his rationale was and it was then that he said he wouldn't put a 50m pool in a community with a population less than 100,000. We have long suspected that Council has wanted this land because it is prime real estate. We know the pool is buggered and needs serious money to keep going and that its days are numbered. From the report by consultant who is a national pool complex expert with 700 projects under his belt they reckon the pool is destined for the rubbish tip and that our low Narooma population wouldn't justify a 50m replacement. Add to the estimated cost would be millions is the fact that the pool is on the Flat in a sea level rise zone. Heads up to Narooma !!! - we are going to loose our pool and there isn't a thing we can do about it. And what will the council say? "Hey Narooma, drive to the regional pool in Batemans Bay - it's just up the road and by the way your rates are paying for it so you may as well use it." Numbnuts are going to have a lot more members.
