Call for salary differences to be donated to HOPE House BBay

Dear Editor

Recently, Councillor Maureen Nathan took leave of absence to fly off to her ‘other home’ in France for approximately three months. During her period of time away from Council meetings etc. I am informed Clr Nathan continues to receive her ‘allowance’ which includes telephone and internet expenses. Total approximately $5,000 depending on internet/phone useage. Clr Nathan received a lot of criticism over her paid ‘holiday’. Perhaps Clr Nathan would like to consider donating her allowance paid to her during her absence to a local worthwhile charity such as Hope House. Same goes for any councillor who applies for leave, or who doesn’t turn up to Council meetings without good reason such as a serious illness/medical treatment as is the case with Clr McGinlay. After all, Councillors are really only part time/casual employees and as such don’t qualify for ‘holiday pay’.

Batehaven Editors Note: While we welcome letters to the editor when we see the opportunity to offer a balance in comment, as is the case on this occasion, we shall. The Beagle can advise that Clr Nathan is one of the three Councillors who actually bother to respond to emails and phonecalls. It is clear from recent correspondences that Clr Nathan is certainly abreast of current issues and it is also advised (unofficially) at Clr Nathan participates in meetings via a Skype-like facility. In her parting discussions with The Beagle Clr advised that her own private phone plan allowed her to be in phone access whilst away and that she was always available via email and if required, a Skype call on more pressing issues. The Beagle can confirm that Clr Nathan has read its recent 4,500 word submission to Council regarding the draft Media policy. Though not in attendance at Council meetings Clr Nathan is certainly participating in Council business. It is agreed thought that any Councillor who is NOT pulling their weight and therefore not worthy of any increase should consider donating the difference to HOPE HOUSE. NOTE: Comments were TRIALED - in the end it failed as humans will be humans and it turned into a pile of merde; only contributed to by just a handful who did little to add to the conversation of the issue at hand. Anyone who would like to contribute an opinion are encouraged to send in a Letter to the Editor where it might be considered for publication
