Thumbs Up For South East Regional Hospital

South East Regional Hospital’s Oncology Unit has been given the thumbs-up. Fiona Elton has been busy tracking her treatment journey at South East Regional Hospital on Facebook, posting pictures of the relaxing vista. After being diagnosed with breast cancer at the beginning of 2017, the Eden local has been through surgery and is now undergoing chemotherapy as part of her cancer treatment. “I’ve had a great experience so far, being provided all the information I’ve needed throughout my journey. The staff at SERH have been fantastic, they’ve been very helpful and really positive, which always helps. They get to know you personally and are very attentive. They make it almost homely with cups of tea and are really on the ball while they get to know the patients ... it really is a personalised service”, Fiona said. While taking a break from treatment for the time being, she was quick to compliment those working at the facility. “My experience with the staff has been great. I check in with my Oncologist Dr Malik every month, have constant follow-ups from the surgical team and have had a really good experience with ‘Health in the Home’ who have come around to change my antibiotics. They are all very informative, attentive and have been very friendly helping me feel at ease with what’s been going on,” Ms Elton said. While Fiona has praised the work of hospital staff, she has also enjoyed the view while undergoing her regular rounds of treatment. “Just being able to sit in a bright sunny room and take in the amazing views through the windows while going through chemotherapy is fantastic. The view really relaxes you, it’s a very peaceful and comfortable environment to be in.”

On behalf of the staff at South East Regional Hospital, we thank Fiona for sharing her experience and we wish all the best for the rest of her journey. Media Release
