Free Spirit linking the South Coast with Melbourne

Over recent weeks Free Spirit Airlines has been running their airport shuttle bus from the Eurobodalla to the Merimbula Airport providing a dedicated, door-to-door service operating between Batemans Bay, Moruya, Narooma, Bega and Merimbula Airport

Free Spirit Airlines are currently operating between Merimbula and Melbourne on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays with a view to extending to a daily service. The door-to-door service between the Eurobodalla and Merimbula Airport is just the start of new air services opening up in the South East. Current upgrades to Merimbula airport and terminal, upgrades to Moruya terminal and proposed developments as well as tarmac work in Moruya and Merimbula will see an increase in visitation with further opportunities to introduce new links with Canberra for incoming international tourists wishing to explore the South East.

In 2016, Eurobodalla Council was successful in attracting funding commitments from the NSW and Australian Governments of $7.1 million to which Council will add $2.5 million to commence the development.

The funding will be used to build the infrastructure needed for future passenger growth at the airport. This includes:

  • improvements to the airport terminal

  • improved road access

  • provision of three-phase power

  • water and sewer infrastructure to support expanded business and tourism opportunities

  • runway surface and lighting upgrades

  • improved passenger and aircraft parking facilities

  • additional aviation hangars
