Have your say on a healthier marine environment

Have your say on a healthier marine environment National Marine Natural Resource Management Plan 2017-2022-Draft for Comment For the next five weeks, Australians have the opportunity to comment on the future stewardship of Australia’s marine environment, by commenting on the draft National Marine Natural Resource Management Plan 2017-2022 (draft Plan). The draft Plan provides a roadmap for helping fishers, boaters, coastal farmers, land managers and residents - both urban and rural, to understand that their practice and behaviours can change the condition of the marine environment that we all love – for the better. Funded by the National Landcare Programme, OceanWatch Australia (OceanWatch) is the national non-government organisation responsible for the delivery of the Australian Government’s marine natural resource management related programs. Following in the successful footsteps of the Landcare movement – which was about transforming Australian landscapes, it’s now the turn of the marine environment for similar transformation. “At OceanWatch”, said Chair, Geoff Blackburn, “we believe that if you fish in it, play in it, eat from it, or just love it – a healthy marine environment matters to you. Our challenge is to convert peoples’ love for the marine environment into stewardship actions, and together ensure a healthy and productive marine environment both now and into the future.” Closing date for comments is Friday 21st of April 2017. All comments received will be carefully reviewed before publication of the final National Marine Natural Resource Management Plan 2017- 2022.
