Tuross Head Fishing Club news - Feb

February is the month where Garfish are most prolific so Garfish was the target (Goblet) species for the month. Over the weekend of February 11 and 12, sixteen angler members competed for either the target species or other species hoping for a club record. The weekend competition was unusually quiet with many members away for various reasons, however, we had five ladies, eleven men with no juniors entering. In total, sixty four fish were caught, measured, photographed on a measuring mat and mostly released to be caught again another day. This is sustainable competition fishing at its best. The lack of juniors entered was frustrating as our club is keen on teaching fishing to the next generations and having them generally outside and away from the digital screens. Come on kids, its great fun. RESULTS: The Goblet was won by Neil Alexander who caught and kept for dinner a very nice table sized garfish Goblet: Neil Alexander Garfish 70.50 points 28.1 cm

MENS Outside Rod Federer Kingfish 174.43 points 115.5 cm Lake and Estuary Peter Dugan Whiting 86.96 points 40.1 cm Rock & Beach Merv Roberts Blackfish 69.15 points 36 cm Merv also won the Turkey of the month prize, which is an award for doing something that ends up being foolish. In Merv's case it was won because he misread the measure-in time and arrived with a prize winning fish just as everyone was packing up to go home. LADIES Outside Janet Sinclair Morwong 109.92 points 54cm Lake and Estuary Janet Sinclair Garfish 60.00 points 28cm Janet had to leave prior to the awards being announced and was therefore not photographed. Rock & Beach There no ladies entering fish for this category. Juniors There were no juniors entering fish for this category The next Goblet fishing event will be held over the weekend of March 25/26 and the measure-in will be held at the Tuross Boatshed and Cafe starting at 4.00 pm. The target species is the very feisty and sporting Tailor species. Scott Paul Competition Secretary.
