Tomakin Fishing Club report Feb 5th

G'day Fishos!

The February monthly competition was held Sunday the 5th and we had some cracka weather for it. Unfortunately someone slept through their alarm clock and didn't get up in time to go fishing, the life of a zealous president burning the candle at both ends.

The conditions proved to be almost perfect but the current had almost come to a stand still. No flow no go! But this didn't stop the spearos and anglers.

We had a very solid turn out at the weigh-in with plenty of smaller fish caught. Young Jacob Beissner caught a stonka of a Morwong and Brendan Birdman Winnell collected a solid Swallowtail Nannygai.

We also had a very unusual event happen with the Blue Water and Overall Cocks. They were dead heats to the gram!

On with the results

Species out of the bag were 1. Kingfish, 2. Pigfish and 3. Morwong.

1. Kingfish - none caught 2. Pigfish, won by Brian Bennett at 640 grams 3. Morwong, won by Jacob Beissner at 1.810 kgs

The Junior Cock of the Walk went to Jacob Beissner with that beauty of a Morwong.

The Spearfishing Cock of the Walk went to gun spearo Joe Harper with 321.03 points

The Rock, Beach and Estuary Cock of the Walk was awarded to dedicated Sam Chambers with a Bream weighing 460 grams.

The Blue Water Cocks of the Walk was awarded to Beryl Ellivson and Dennis Beissner with both catching Morwongs weighing 1.340 kgs!!!

Finally the Overall Cocks of the Walk accolade was awarded to Beryl and Dennis. A dead heat of this kind has not happened in decades within the club.

The entire fishing club and myself cannot express enough our gratitude to this month's sponsor MORDEK found in the Moruya industrial estate for all your Colorbond and kit home needs.

I cannot forget my good friend Anthony Stokman from Compleat Angler Batemans Bay. He really has gone beyond the call of duty looking after the fishing club with our monthly competitions but also laying the pathway for what could well be the premier recreational fishing event for the south coast this October long weekend. More on that as it develops.

Don't forget our Fun Board competition that operates throughout the entire year which attracts $250 vouchers at either Compleat Angler or Power & Sail. All you have to do is become a member of the fishing club and then go fishing, its that easy!

Tight lines and sharp spears. Adam Martin
