Australia Day OAMs to Moruya couple


Congratulations to Barbara and Bruce Smith of Moruya. The Smiths were recognised with Order of Australia medals on Australia Day for their contributions spanning several decades to the Eurobodalla Shire community . MEDAL (OAM) OF THE ORDER OF AUSTRALIA IN THE GENERAL DIVISION Mrs Barbara Jean SMITH, For service to the community of the Eurobodalla region. Service includes: Vice-President and Land Cookery Officer, Bodalla Branch, Country Women's Association, current. Volunteer, Moruya St Vincent de Paul Shop, 'for many years'. Judge, Baked goods, various local agricultural shows including the Eurobodalla, Bega, Milton and Canberra Shows, 'for many years'. Volunteer teacher, cake decorating and baking, Braidwood Central School, ongoing. Tuckshop Volunteer, Moruya Public School and Moruya High School, 'for several years'. New South Wales Rural Fire Service: Captain, Eurobodalla Catering Brigade, since 2014. Call Out Officer, Moruya Brigade, since 2013. Life Member, 1996. Member, since 1996. Past Member, Moruya Show Society. Former Day Care Volunteer, Moruya Hospital. Awards and recognition includes: Recipient, Eurobodalla Senior Citizen of the Year, 2013. Recipient, Long Service Medal, New South Wales Rural Fire Service, 2011. Mr Bruce Allan SMITH AFSM For service to the community of the Eurobodalla region. Service includes: New South Wales Rural Fire Service: Deputy Group Captain, Eurobodalla Fire Control Centre,1996. Deputy Captain, Moruya Brigade, since 2015.Volunteer, Mogo Hot Fire Training Centre, current. New Trainee Mentor; Driver Trainer; Custodian and Caretaker, vintage Blitz 1942 Fire Truck, ongoing. Life Member, 1996. Member, since 1961. Past Member, New South Wales State Emergency Services. Awards and recognition includes: Recipient, Long Service Medal, New South Wales Rural Fire Service, 2011.
