In the middle of last year 2016 in the lead up to the Council Elections, Councillors announced we the shires residents and ratepayers had purchased the Ex Batemans Bay Bowling Club site from the Catalina Golf Club for a figure in excess of 2 Million Dollars heading towards 3 Million dollars in the final wash up of it all. Some groups in the community expected they would be able to use the newly purchased public “Assets” at least in the short term anyway, but found out that was unlikely. What will become of the new “public asset” no one seems to know, particularly our elected councillors. So why was it really purchased using the shires ratepayers and residents money, a re-election carrot, perhaps, for some ?
