Tuross Golfing news - Jan 2017

The Tuross Head Open Championship 36 hole event held over two days on Saturday and Sunday December 3rd and 4th, was played in ideal conditions with a capacity field on the well presented, attractive course. Club committee members were congratulated by local players and the many visitors on the excellent organisation and presentation of the championships. The scratch championship award was won by Aaron Monopoli who returned a score of 145 strokes. The runner up was Mitch McLean with 149. Steve Walker won the overall net award with 136 strokes and Tony Brown took the runner up prize with 137. The championships were held over A, B and C grades and results for these hotly contested events were: A grade scratch winner was Gavin Fitzgerald with 150 strokes who won on a countback from Leigh Coloe. Stu McKell’s score of 139 won the net award with Paul Ferguson the runner up. B grade champion was Greg Smith with 171 strokes and Ian Lawson was second place getter with 173. Wayne Fullerton was the net winner with 143 and Reg Apps was second with 144 strokes. In the C grade championship section John Phyland was the scratch winner with 181 and Tony O’connor was the runner up. Chris Lennox was awarded the net winner with 140 strokes ahead of Roger Chappell 143. The standard of play over the two days was emphasised by Leigh Coloe and Adam Wilson both having eagles on the 1st and 18th hole respectively on the Tuross Head Country Club course.
