Moruya artist wins People’s Choice Award

Moruya artist Laiyee Fernandez has won the Basil Sellers People’s Choice Award.

Ms Fernandez’s watercolour and acrylic piece ‘Untitled’ attracted the most votes from visitors to the exhibition, which wrapped up last week at the Mechanics Institute in Moruya.

The $500 People’s Choice prize is presented by South East Arts.

Eurobodalla Shire Council’s Arts and Culture Coordinator Indi Carmichael said the work demonstrated excellence in technique.

“Laiyee’s piece clearly won the hearts of our exhibition visitors,” Mrs Carmichael said.

“The exhibition was well attended and the People’s Choice Award was certainly hotly contested.

“Congratulations to Laiyee and to all participating artists. The calibre of entries was outstanding.

“I’d like to thank the community members who cast their vote at the exhibition as well as the volunteers who made sure the exhibition doors were open.

“We are now looking forward to the next Basil Sellers Art Prize in 2018, where we will once again celebrate the region’s artists. We are confident the competition will continue to be fierce.” Media Release
