Tuross Community Garden news

The Tuross Community Garden received exciting news that we have received a $7,000 grant from IMB to re-surface the “roof on the ground” water catchment system and purchase a new tank to store the water. This project will begin later in the year and we are grateful to IMB for this grant.

We are also looking forward to a visit from Bunnings who will be coming to the garden in October to help us with a project.

Recently we have pruned, fertilized and mulched the swales and the fruit forest and have enjoyed our first few apples, watermelon, mandarins, strawberries and bananas.

Garlic, carrot and onion beds are being trialled and a compendium of our fruit trees and how to care for them is being compiled, as a reference for the future.

As half of the communal garden bed is shaded during the winter months we have rested those beds and have grown broccoli,

cauliflower, kale, salad greens, beetroot and other root crops on the sunny side instead. We now have designated asparagus, potato and rhubarb beds.

Membership for 2016/17 is now due. Annual membership fee $20 per person – family $40. Pensioner/student/concession/low income $15 per person - family $30. Individual plots $30 plus membership fee

NOTE: Comments were TRIALED - in the end it failed as humans will be humans and it turned into a pile of merde; only contributed to by just a handful who did little to add to the conversation of the issue at hand. Anyone who would like to contribute an opinion are encouraged to send in a Letter to the Editor where it might be considered for publication
