POSTAL. – Mr. Austin Chapman, M.P. has received the following communications from the Deputy Postmaster-General: - “Sir, I have to inform you that the communication dated 17th January, 1920, from Mr. S. W. Bate of Tilba Tilba presented by you re the delay in the delivery of mail matter owing to its being carried beyond Central Tilba and left at Tilba Tilba Office, is under consideration, and that a further communication respecting it will be addressed to you as soon as a decision has been arrived at in the matter, which has been referred to the District Postal Inspector for attention. Yours faithfully, (Sgd.) E.J. Young. Deputy Postmaster-General.

MORUYA ANNUAL RACES.

These races, which commenced on Monday last were favoured with King’s weather, the day being one of the most perfect experienced for many months past. There was a fair attendance. Visitors were present from many parts of the State, the immediate centres of population being particularly well represented. The course was in perfect condition, due in a large measure to the untiring supervision of the true sport, the Club’s esteemed president, Mr. J. McKeon, and the picturesque trysting ground and its fascinating surroundings never looked more beautiful.

NERRIGUNDAH (From our correspondent). In the report of the Concert and Ball on the 29th Dec. one most important item was overlooked – special thanks to Mr. H. O’Toole, who donated a pig to be raffled as first prize, and to Mrs P. Connolly, who donated a pair of fowls as second prize, the sum of £8 18s being raised by same, which was a big help to the funds.

Mr, and Mrs Lake arrived home after a few weeks holiday in Sydney and Kiama, and experienced a wet trip, but the climax came on arrival at Nerrigundah to find the creek a banker. Leaving the vehicle on the Eurobodalla side Mr and Mrs Lake mounted the coach horses and facing the raging current succeeded in landing safely on their home side after being buffeted about and washed down the stream a considerable distance. Few women would have attempted so dangerous a task, but Mrs. Lake is one of those fearless horsewomen who, like her brothers (the Thompsons) were as the old saying is “born on horseback.”

LETTER –

Parliament House December 29 1919

To: C. Carter Esq Hon. Sec. Progress Ass. Moruya.

Dear Friend, - I enclose copy of letter sent to the Minister on the question of necessity for prompt action to improve navigation of Moruya River. Later, I had an interview with Mr. Burrowes of the Works Department, the officer in charge of harbours and rivers, who informed me that the “Atleon” is now in dock, undergoing repairs that will take up to nearly the end of January to complete. As soon as she is ready to start, she will be sent to Narooma, to give relief to that port, and as soon as that work is finished, she will be sent to Moruya.

I will continue to keep in touch with this work, recognising how important it is. As a matter of fact, the dredges in commission are altogether inadequate to meet the work required of them.

Yours sincerely, W. Millard.
