FANCY COSTUMES.– Mrs. A. W. Constable, Hon Secretary of the Hospital Ball, is in receipt of list of fancy costumes from Mrs. Heady, of Bega. Anyone wishing to hire a costume may inspect the list at the ‘Examiner’ Office. The Secretary desires all those requiring masks to leave their order with her, as she can procure them in Bega for the small sum of nine pence.
DEATH.—Once again we are called upon to chronicle the death of one of our old and highly respected residents. This time it is Mr. Charles Colefax, who passed peacefully over the Great Divide early on Sunday morning at the age of 75 years. Mr. Colefax, who was a native of Maitland came to Moruya when a boy and has resided here ever since. He followed farming pursuits, and being industrious and a man of the strictest integrity, he was very successful in the industry, amassing a comfortable income to live on in his declining days. He was greatly esteemed throughout the district, being of a quite reserved disposition, he lived for his wife and family only. The funeral took place on Tuesday, the body being taken first to the Church of England, where an impressive service was held by the Rev. G. A. Sanders, who also performed the last sad rites at the graveside. Deceased leaves a widow (a sister of Mr. W. Constable, of Gundary, and Mrs R. Little, Moruya), and a grown-up family of seven sons and four daughters, to all of whom we extend our deepest sympathy.
SUCCESSFUL PASS.– The “Examiner” offers its congratulations to Miss Lyla Ball, fourth daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. Ball, of Mullenderree, who has been successful in passing the necessary examinations for appointment as telephonist in the G.P.O., Sydney. This clever young lady left on Thursday to take up her position.
MOGO. (From our Correspondent.)
Great interest was manifested in the return football match played here on Saturday, 10th inst. between the local lads and a team from Bodalla. Good humour and sportsman like behaviour governed the game. … At night a good supper was provided at D. Casey’s, where both teams showed their appreciation of the other fellows good qualities on the field. A dance at night finished the sport of a pleasant afternoon.
A grand ball in aid of the funds of the Catholic Church is to take place on Friday, 6th August. As the ladies here are noted for providing good refreshments at these functions, a bumper house may be expected.
