Meals on Wheels - Out and about

New venue helps clients

Out and About provides wonderful social support opportunities for the older people of the Shire.

Eurobodalla Meals on Wheels has run this programme for over 11 years and continues to seek outstanding venues to use.

“We have taken our programme on the road,” says Manager Alan Russell. “This allows us to provide social activities in Narooma each Monday, Batemans Bay each Thursday and for the central area we now go to the Tomakin Hall each Friday”.

Mr Russell commented that previously the programme was located in Batemans Bay. “Now we can offer it to everyone and we are pleased with the number of clients we are getting at each venue,” said Mr Russell.

“From February we changed our central venue from Moruya to Tomakin to provide a quieter and friendlier location. The Tomakin Hall is versatile and allows our clients plenty of space,” said Coordinator Chelsea Rehardt.

“Our clients have enjoyed the change. It is quiet, private, pleasant and sunny. It makes the day so much better when the venue is a good one.”

“The Lunch About programme each Tuesday is very popular and continues to grow in number. To this end we have to use a second vehicle often to get our clients to the various lunch locations,” said Mrs Rehardt.

“This is exciting and all of these opportunities help our clients to get out of home, to meet others and to share some fun.”

Social isolation and loneliness are two of the modern-day issues facing the older person.

Eurobodalla Meals on Wheels, through its Out and About programme, tries very hard to make sure there is the opportunity for people to have fun with others, to complete tasks and to enjoy a days outing.

“Wellness and reablement are key words within Aged Care. This programme is aiding our clients in both of these areas, and we are very proud of being able to do so,” says Mr Russell. For more information contact Meals on Wheels on 02 4474 4464
