Welcome to the world of double speak and platitudes

On December 15th, 2020 Council was asked three questions by a ratepayer: Would you please tell me the actual increase in annual income expected from the lease of the Batemans Bay Community Centre over existing income?

Did Council try to increase use of the community centre around existing users and if so how (particulars please rather than generalities)?

Would you please tell me what is this predicted loss for Mackay Park, and how in particular is it to be serviced? Council provided the following response one month later on Monday, 11 January 2021: In regards to your question about the increase in annual income expected from the lease of the community centre, this is dependant on a number of factors including a valuation by a registered valuer, space available for existing users and take up of such space versus the decision by groups to potentially utilise other Council facilities . These outcomes will not be known until negotiations with the proposed lessee are finalised.

In terms of increasing use, Council provides information to the community on the facilities available via its recently enhanced web page and a staffed, booking office to encourage use of its facilities.

Information on the funding of the new centre at Mackay Park is found at Batemans Bay Regional Aquatic, Arts and Leisure Centre - Eurobodalla Shire Council (nsw.gov.au). This facility, when built, will be no different to the variety of public assets across the Shire, where all ratepayers contribute to their ongoing maintenance and general upkeep.
