Additional prohibited activities and venues to apply from 11.59pm (local time) 25 March 2020
Almost all elective surgery in Australia, excluding urgent cases, will be suspended indefinitely to ease pressure on hospitals preparing for an influx of COVID-19 patients.
Prime Minister Scott Morrison announced the decision would apply to public and private hospitals from midnight on Wednesday.
"Cancellation of elective surgery will allow the preservation of resources like personal protective equipment and allow health services to prepare for their role in the COVID-19 outbreak," Mr Morrison told reporters in Canberra today.
