Public health alert : meningococcal

2EC reports: A south coast teenager has died from meningococcal which has resulted in a public health alert being issued for the potentially deadly disease.

The 18-year-old from Ulladulla attended the Spilt Milk festival in Canberra on November 26 which has health officials urging people who attended the event to monitor for symptoms of meningococcal disease and to get checked by their GP.

Parents and young people especially have been urged to be alert to symptoms and act immediately if they appear. NSW Health says there have been 29 cases reported this year, the majority due to meningococcal B strain of the infection.

NOTE: Comments were TRIALED - in the end it failed as humans will be humans and it turned into a pile of merde; only contributed to by just a handful who did little to add to the conversation of the issue at hand. Anyone who would like to contribute an opinion are encouraged to send in a Letter to the Editor where it might be considered for publication
