Ticket link: https://events.humanitix.com/body-and-environment-bega-screening Body and Environment is a meditation on the physical journey through psychological spaces. Set within a unique transforming set installation designed by Rob McCredie and Tim Newth , Body and Environment features the FLING Company, made up of 13 young performers from the Bega Valley. A suspended web of 64 interconnected shirts is manipulated by the performers to create a series of spaces, public and private; from architectural structures to natural environments and the subconscious internal landscapes of the mind.

Body and Environment was first presented as a live performance in Bega in 2018, receiving an Australian Dance Award for Outstanding Achievement in Youth Dance. The project was intended to tour in 2020 but was put on hold due to the pandemic. In response, FLING created a stunning film of the work that premiered to rave reviews in Sydney 18th November 2022 and is screening for one night only in Bega December 15th. Local percussionist, Artistic Director of Stonewave Taiko and Director of Four Winds Create & Inspire Education program - David Hewitt, created a sound score for the work that is sublime in its textures and layers. Highly regarded local lighting designer Gerry Corcoran captured the tone and energy of each scene with depth and imagination.

Sapphire Coast Filmmaker Andrew Robinson led as Director of Photography on the project, curating the audience gaze as the young dancers explore the structures and spaces composed by the moving set. ‘’ I want the work I make to connect with people, start conversations and contribute to positive change.’’ - Andrew Robinson. FLING Co Artistic Director Gabrielle Rose has worked with Rob McCredie on the project as creative collaborator and rehearsal director from the very beginning.

The work was developed as a continuation of a long-term collaboration between Co Artistic Director Rob McCredie and Melbourne based Independent Dancer and Choreographer Holly Durant. Their collaborative work has explored the relationship of dance and design, including a range of immersive installations and costumes.

Body and Environment screens for one night only in Bega on December 15th, alongside a short film Whose thoughts are they?, created by FLING alumni Jazmyn Carter with the FLING Company . Dress glam for this fundraising event to celebrate FLING’s 21st year and support FLING’s relocation to an exciting new, purpose built home in 2023. This project has been supported by the Australia Council for the Arts, Create NSW, and the Regional Arts Fund and FORM Dance Projects.
