For our Bega Shire readers - just another flim flam man?

just another flimflam man?

Like an itinerant horse-fly, the NSW Opposition Health spokesperson, the Hon Walt Secord, MLC, blew in yesterday morning, loudly advocating that the state government should strip local councils of their decision-making responsibilities relating to the fluoridation of drinking water supplies.

While the Bega Valley Shire Residents & Ratepayers Association (BVSRRA) has previously acknowledged Mr Secord’s right to his opinion, it does not share his evangelical desire to strip communities of their democratic right to make decisions that directly affect them.

Mr Secord has previously lambasted groups opposed to the further fluoridation of drinking water supplies in the Bega Valley, belligerently asserting that “they don’t have a right to impose their views on the community”, while hypocritically claiming that exact same right for himself.

Regrettably, Mr Secord displays all the hallmarks of the quintessential modern politician, prosecuting his opinions with a shrill, high-speed precision that leaves no room for anyone else’s voice.

The association would like to suggest that if Mr Secord is genuinely interested in the wellbeing of the people of the south coast, he could take steps to bring his government colleagues & the faceless, nameless, unaccountable bureaucrats who run NSW Health like a ‘secret kingdom’ to account over their obscene treatment of Dr Chris Phoon & his family.

If Mr Secord could effectively respond to that worthy challenge, it just might be that the community would be willing to listen to his views on other issues, rather than possibly thinking of him as being just another flimflam man.
