Lightning, fires and real time websites

Wide spread lightning across NSW has started at least 56 fires over the past week. A powerful storm cell moved through Sydney on Tuesday with more than 5000 lightning strikes recorded.

The South Coast also had its fair share of lightning activity and while there may have been some rain with the recent storms residents are still reminded to keep an eye out for any new fires and report them to Triple Zero (000).

You can keep up to date with reported fires by visiting the NSW RFS website If you are interested in lightning strikes when they are about you can log on to the Real Time Lightning Map at
