Call For Tenders To Build New Nelligen Bridge

An important milestone for the Nelligen Bridge replacement project has been reached with tenders now open to build a new bridge over the Clyde River at Nelligen.

Member for Bega Andrew Constance said the NSW Government provided $9 million in the 2018/2019 budget for the start of work for the bridge which will improve safety for motorists, pedestrians and cyclists.

“The Nelligen Bridge is moving ahead at an exciting rate with interested companies invited to submit a tender application to build the new bridge,” Mr Constance said.

“Pre-qualified contractors are invited to submit tenders by 26 November to turn the design into reality and deliver the project.

“The detailed design will be available to the public later this year but will include an improved curve, wider lanes and shoulders, and safety barriers between the road and footpath.

“When completed, the project will improve safety and traffic efficiency on this important highway link between Canberra and the coast.

“This major project is yet another example of the commitment to road safety by the NSW Government and I look forward to seeing the benefits this and the new Batemans Bay Bridge brings to our region, Mr Constance said.

“Early work on the project is under way and includes earthwork to the east of the existing bridge.

The contract award is expected to be announced early next year.

The new bridge is expected to be opened in 2021, weather permitting, with demolition of the existing bridge commencing shortly after. The community will be kept informed as the project progresses.
