Shadow Minister visits Bega electorate to hear first hand the issues around the Batemans Bay bridge

The Bega electorate today played host to Ms Jodi McKay, MP Shadow Minister for Transport, and Shadow Minister for Roads, Maritime and Freight as she toured Batemans Bay with Leanne Atkinson, Labor's candidate for Bega

Of particular interest to the Shadow Minister was the "Road to No Where" of the Spine Road that will sit useless until priority is given for State funding to be released to begin design and then further funding be provided for the construction of the highway intersection.

The South East Area Transport Strategy, Eurobodalla Council and the Federal member for Gilmore have all recognised that this intersection and the coastal bypass of Batemans Bay that will be created will result in an immediate economic windfall for the area in terms of opening up lands for development and stimulating employment. While many expected funds to be announced in the recent NSW Budget there were no funds at all forthcoming for the highway from the Batemans Bay bridge south to to Victorian border through the entire electorate of Bega.

Editor: apologies for focus issues

Though the predominantly northern focused Fix it Now campaign has gone quiet following the recent commitment of $1.5b to roadworks in the Shoalhaven as handed down in the recent NSW State Budget the fact remains that there was no commitment to any road works on the Princes Highway from Batemans Bay to the Victorian border.

It is therefore encouraging for those those who stand disappointed to see the Moruya Teensafe campaign of "Fix the BLOODY Highway" gaining wider community support and momentum with more and more coreflute signs making their appearance on road sides, pink planes and in the local press.
