Member for Bega Andrew Constance today welcomed the official opening of the new Eurobodalla Community Recycling Centre (CRC), where householders can drop off problem wastes such as paints, oils, gas bottles e-waste and batteries for free.
The CRC has been established by Eurobodalla Council after receiving a $237,424 grant from the NSW Government’s Waste Less, Recycle Moreinitiative.
“Establishing this recycling facility will help the NSW Government keep problem wastes out of landfill and help reduce illegal dumping,” Mr Constance said.
“We want to encourage communities to recycle problem wastes to help prevent contaminants from entering the environment.
“The centre will complement the community’s existing recycling services, minimise waste and increase recycling.”
These centres were part of a network of 100 facilities being established across NSW.
“The NSW Government is dedicated to improving the collection and recycling of household problem waste and has dedicated $127 million to establish new systems, such as the Community Recycling Centre network under the Waste Less, Recycle More initiative,” said Mr Constance.
Mayor Liz Innes said Eurobodalla residents are passionate recyclers.
“The CRC offers another option for a community already committed to wasting less and recycling more.
“Thanks to Andrew and the NSW Government, we now have a year-round facility where residents can safely dispose of high volume, low toxicity products. We can now take materials like paint and oil straight to the CRC for free.”
Waste Less, Recycle More is a NSW Government initiative to keep waste out of landfill, increase food and garden waste collections, boost business recycling and invest in new infrastructure.
The Community Recycling Centre is located at Surf Beach Waste Management Facility, 311 George Bass Drive, Surf Beach.
It is open when the site is open from 7am-4.45pm weekdays and from 8am-3.45pm weekends and public holidays.
The accepted items are the 9 problem household wastes outlined by the EPA:
Paint
Gas bottles
Fire extinguishers
Motor oils
Other oils
Car batteries
Household batteries
Smoke detectors
Fluoro globes and tubes
Eurobodalla is also providing drop off for the additional waste e-waste
and mattresses which compliments the polystyrene, paper, cardboard, glass, plastic and metal drop off locations on site.
