Member for Bega Andrew Constance announces $750,000 for the Moruya South Heads Cycle project

This afternoon Member for Bega Andrew Constance invited the members of the Moruya South Heads Cycle-Pathway Committee to an on-site announcement. Little did they realise that the announcement wuld be in the order of $750,000 to be funded out of the NSW Priority Cycleways funding program.

This funding is earmarked for projects that are identified in a NSW Government plan as a Priority Cycleway or cycleways on state owned assets. These routes connect major generators of bicycle traffic within each region.

Priority cycleways are generally under the care and control of councils when completed as will be the case with the Moruya South Heads Cycleway along Moruya South Head Road.

Mr Constance requested $750,000 be given consideration for the project following ongoing advocacy by Mrs Danielle Brice and the Moruya South Heads Cycle-Pathway Committee.

The section to be completed has many difficulties that need to be overcome including land acquisition, passing over culverts and environment controls set in place for earthworks.

Eurobodalla Shire Council Director of Infrastructure, Warren Sharpe advised that the section of pathway will be off the road as is the case for the other sections and will remove both cyclist and pedestrians from the road shoulder where they currently ride.

The project will now require planning and design prior to any construction however with the funding and the State government support of the project the green light will now see the final “Missing Link” of this community cycleway be built.
