Locals making a difference to creeks with rubbish and plastic cleanups

A local solution to Marine Debris. McLeods Creek, Surfside

This group of amazing people from the Eurobodalla are doing great things to rid the marine area of debris.

A recent Eurobodalla Marine Debris Working Group cleanup of McLeod Creek, Surfside collected 88.5kg of rubbish - 750 items - including 32 plastic drink bottles, 42 whole plastic shopping bags, 119 plastic film remnants from plastic bags and 146 plastic food packaging items.

The Surfside Beach Foreshore Reserve Plan of Management encourages the use of nearby McLeods Beach Park for picnics and informal recreation by providing for tree planting for shade and space delineation and the installation of additional picnic tables with appropriate access for people with disabilities. Unfortunately this creek and reserve is also the location where litter blown from Batemans Bay CBD and Princes Highway ends up.

Regular volunteer cleanups and logging the findings into the Australian Marine Debris Database helps tackle the problem and get to the source of the polluters
