Work on the Batemans Bay CBD streetscaping has stopped for a few weeks while the town is busy for Easter school holidays.
Now in stage two of the $1.6 million Eurobodalla Shire Council project, construction work has been focussed on Orient Street between Beach Road and North Street since late February.
North Street was completed late last year.
In Orient Street, paving has been completed on the first section from Beach Road to the Bay View hotel. New underground services have also been installed.
Minor maintenance work will continue around the site this week, including moving seats, while mulching new garden beds is planned for next week.
The main work will start up again on Wednesday 26 April once the holiday traffic has died down.
The streetscape overhaul includes new kerb and guttering, repaved and widened pathways using new and recycled pavers, new trees, seating and bin surrounds, and more on-street parking.
Landscaping, totem poles and fairy lights will provide finishing touches to North Street and Orient Street when construction work is complete later this year.
Water pipes, power, and conduits for future telecommunications are also being installed, which Council’s Director of Infrastructure Warren Sharpe says are the tricky and time consuming part of the project.
“Although the new and upgraded underground services take time to install, putting them in now is an investment in our future infrastructure,” he said.
Mr Sharpe added that the patience and cooperation of businesses in the work area is gratifying.
“We know it’s inconvenient for them but they’ve remained largely positive and we really encourage shoppers to keep visiting the area while the work is underway.”
