Member for Bega Andrew Constance has today reminded the community geotechnical investigations will continue to be carried out as planning progresses for a new bridge at Batemans Bay.
Mr Constance said Roads and Maritime Services will be carrying out work during the school holidays and advised boaters on the Clyde River to exercise caution.
“While the investigations will not impact school holiday traffic on the Princes Highway, work is continuing to be carried out on the river,” Mr Constance said.
“A large barge may be located near the bridge during the holidays and marine signs and lights have been installed to allow safe navigation.
“Water users should exercise caution around the barge, as the work is being carried out.”
The results of this work, along with earlier investigations, will help to direct possible options for a new bridge at Batemans Bay.
“The results will be available to the public later this year, when the community will have an opportunity to comment on a preferred options report,” Mr Constance said.
Mr Constance said a new bridge at Batemans Bay will improve productivity of the road freight network access across the Clyde River, reduce ongoing bridge maintenance costs and create a more reliable bridge opening for marine traffic, reducing delays.
