Community groups seeking assistance to fund youth-oriented projects are invited to apply for one of Eurobodalla Council’s Youth Development Grants.
Grant applications opened Monday 8 April, with up to $500 available for projects that create tangible benefits for the shire’s young people.
Council’s youth project officer Yvonne Hutcheson welcomed initiatives targeting youth and designed to educate, encourage participation, promote healthy living and lifestyle choices, and develop leadership and employment opportunities.
“We’re looking forward to seeing this year’s applicants, having funded some terrific projects last year,” Ms Hutcheson said.
“We had 16 applicants in 2018, with ten of those successful.
“We gave money to TeenSafe driver-education for learners and P-platers, which provides young drivers with practical skills to stay safe on the road, while the kids at St Peter’s Anglican College in Broulee established a market garden and learnt how to grow a business.”
Ms Hutcheson said projects focussing on mental-health capacity and healthy-lifestyle choices were particularly welcome.
“Last year we had Broulee Public School P&C run the Girl Campaign, where year 5 and 6 girls explored self-esteem and body image to build mental resilience, and the Dalmeny Boardriders held a learn-to-surf camp which explored lifestyle options through activities like yoga,” she said.
