BATEMANS BAY EROSION TASKFORCE
Environment Minister Gabrielle Upton and Member for Bega Andrew Constance have announced the NSW Government is establishing a taskforce to tackle erosion along the Batemans Bay waterfront.

Ms Upton said up to $5 million in funding has been reserved to help find a solution.
“The NSW Government will lead the study with an immediate grant of $250,000 to fund an urgent options study,” she said.
“We are acting fast to address the urgent concerns of residents on the northern shore of Batemans Bay including Wharf Road, Surfside and Long Beach.
“We need to examine engineering solutions in consultation with affected residents, Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) and the council.
“It is important we identify options to address coastal inundation, drainage and potential groundwater issues in the area.
Mr Constance said the community deserves a coordinated effort to resolve the coastal management issues impacting their homes and futures.
“This is an issue that needs to be fixed and the RMS, Crown Lands, engineering company GHD, the Office of Environment and Heritage (OEH) and the Department of Planning and Environment have been brought together to do just that,” he said.
“They will look at possible engineering solutions, including a proposed sea wall at Wharf Road, as well as additional community engagement.”
“This will go a long way to bringing reassurance for the affected landowners and we want them to have confidence the NSW government is working at all levels to protect them.
“The only way to achieve a practical and scientifically rigorous solutions is by working together across governments and with communities.”
