Coila Off the Shore sailing results

Sunday’s sailing off the beach at Coila Lake started off with very little wind but warm sunshine, so an early lunch happened under the shade of a tree and some of the world’s woes were discussed. A nice seabreeze of 10-12 knots then came in from the NE, so one fairly long race was held, venturing into the back lake, before a gourmet BBQ was served by James Gardiner, doubling up on his BBQ the day before after the keelboat racing.

Richard Dreverman chose a pin end start on Lily, and crossed the line first ahead of Tradewind (Allan Rees and Thomas Schild), with Taipan Terminator a few seconds behind but travelling with momentum. Peter and Pip Schwarz, in only their second race together, were game to fly a jib and sail Terminator as a sloop, and were soon in the lead.

Lily and Tradewind were well matched, with Lily holding her lead on the first leg into the wind, before Tradewind took over on the long reaching leg. This pattern continued through the race, but on the second-last leg Tradewind had a particularly glorious spinnaker run and opened up a gap which Lily could not close. Terminator took line honours, but not by enough to cover the huge difference in boat yardsticks, so the results were:

Div 1 (multihulls) on Yardstick: (1) Tradewind (2) Terminator

Div 1 (multihulls) on Performance Handicap: (1) Tradewind (2) Terminator

Div 2 (monohulls) on Yardstick: (1) Lily

Div 2 (monohulls) on Performance Handicap: (1) Lily

Next racing day will be on Sunday 24 February, competitors should be ready for a briefing at 11:30am and a start at 12:00 noon.
