People looking for work or a career change have an opportunity to kick start their community care career with a unique 12-week course.
Eurobodalla Council’s Jobs and Training Project has partnered with South Coast Careers College and industry to run the entry-level course, which helps prepare workers for the shire’s fastest growing employment sector.
Free for eligible participants, the course opens up real job opportunities in disability support, aged care and home care.
Council’s Jobs and Training Project Coordinator Rhonnie South said participants would gain on-the-job experience at local facilities that were looking for staff.
“The course structure is one day of theory per week and one day training in a local facility with a workplace mentor,” she said.
“The program is an excellent learn and earn opportunity, as we expect successful work placement will lead to employment.
“The final qualification is undertaken once the participant is employed, similar to the traineeship model.”
Ms South said career pathway opportunities in the community care industry were endless.
“You can step in at entry level and be on a pathway to being a manager of a facility, a registered nurse, or work in an allied health facility,” she said.
“This is an industry where there’s always jobs – casual, part time and fulltime - and it’s a flexible work environment.
“We’d love to hear from caring people who see themselves undertaking a professional career in this field.”
A course information session will be held at South Coast Careers College’s Batemans Bay campus, 42 Orient Street, on Monday 4 February at 10am.
