Batemans Bay's Naomi Crowther : "Flanders Poppies Rising" commissioned by ADFA

Local Batemans Bay painter Naomi Crowther was Guest of Honour at a morning tea at the Australian Defence Force Academy in Canberra on Monday September 10th. The event took place to mark the occasion of the official unveiling of Crowther’s substantial painting, ‘Flanders Poppies Rising’ which was commissioned by ADFA for the Academy Chapel.

‘I am honoured to have my artwork hung on permanent display for current and future generations to contemplate during times of refection’, the 44 year old, full time artist said.

The chapel itself has a unique ambience, with an amber coloured backlit feature wall creating a soft light. The painting features thick red poppies in Crowther’s signature style, applied using a spatula knife and rising from rich burnt umber drips. It is a poignant art work paying homage to those who gave their all for their country.

Naomi Crowther currently has artworks from her Flanders Poppies series at ‘the Gallery’ 52 Sydney Street, Mogo.
