Bega Council performs well above its weight on Day Two of the LG National Assembly

On Day Two of the National Assembly of Local Government Conference in Canberra Ian Campbell of About Regional is chatting to Bega Valley Shire Councllors Mayor Kristy Bain, Cr. Jo Dodds, Cr. Cathy Griff and Cr. Sharon Tapscott

Mayor Kristy Bain talks of the motion that Bega Valley Shire put forward seeking recognition of the Princes Highway as a road of National significance in order to attract the attention and funding of the Federal Government.

In a pleasing result the tenacity and commitment of Bega to gain the support of the conference and see this motin adopted is a credit to them as Eurobodalla's Councillor Phil Constable had raised the very issue in 2017 but Council staff failed to push through with the instruction to begin the essential discussions that would see clear directions be determined for long term design and funding of the Princes Highway as a regional strategic corridor.

Bega's councillor Jo Dodds spoke of the disappointment that climate change was not on the agenda and it was revealed that Eurobodalla Council's motion to seek support for greener investment options for Local Government was defeated.

Cr. Cathy Griff spoke of waste management and Cr. Sharon Tapscott spoke of the overall experience of being at the conference and watching and learning from the political arena.
